January Birthstone - Garnet

Garnet it known as the gem of plenty and birthstone of January.  Garnets are a 7.5 on Moh's scale of mineral hardness and is best known for shades of red.  Varieties include Demantoids(green), Tsavorite(green), Spessartite(orange), Rhodolite and Hessonite(cinnamon).  

Spessartite Garnets have a very high amount of refraction and can be reddish brown to yellow orange.  Varieties are Mandarin Garnet, Tangerine Garnet, Nambian Garnet and Malaya Garnet
